  1. After discussing some topics with my site supervisor, I have decided to do my research over motivating the high school student.
    I will conduct my research at my school, a large high school.

    My action research question is...

    What are some effective strategies teachers can use to motivate the high school student to reach their highest acedemic potential.

    I am teaching all average level, 9th grade English, this upcoming school year. I plan to start my research with the 130+ students on my roster. After I have researched some strategies (internet, other districts, and coworkers), I will implement the strategies into my classroom. I will collect data based on performance, grades, increased class participation, etc... During this time, I will conduct surveys among my co workers in the English dept., asking for some of the ways they motivate their students. I will experiment with some of these strategies with my own classes.

    After I have conducted my research among my classes and gathered a good amount of data that shows which strategies are most effective, I will exptend my research to the next grade level up, 10th graders. I will have a 10th grade teacher try some of the strategies, collect data, and report their findings to me. I will continue these steps with both 11th and 12th graders. My research may show that some of the strategies that work for one age group don't always work as well for another age group.

    Like I stated before, I will start my research with a small group of students, my own students. As I perfect my strategies and the ways I collect data, I will extend my action research to more and more students.

    When I have completed my action research, I will share my findings and information with other teachers, maybe the entire faculty. By doing this, I hope my research will benefit both students and teachers.

    I am still brainstorming how I want to collect data. I know some of the techniques I plan to use; but, I am still brainstorming the best way to accurately evaluate and analyze the progress, what is most effective among the students and what is not as effective in the classroom.
